Connect Apple Focus
Open iPhone Settings, tap Focus and choose the Focus you want. Scroll past Allow Notifications to the bottom of that screen and find Focus Filters. hey is not in the Apps list under Allow Notifications, because it never sends notifications. Tap Add Filter, choose hey under App Filters, turn on Help during this Focus and tap Add. Go back to hey and turn that Focus on when asked. When hey says “Focus on received,” continue. You only need to add the filter once for each Focus you want to connect.
If hey does not appear under Add Filter, open hey once, restart your iPhone and look again under App Filters.
Apple manages this screen. hey cannot add the filter for you. You can use a manual session while setting it up.
My pal is not checking in
Make sure hey has Screen Time permission, at least one app or website is selected, and your connected Focus or manual session is active. Time adds up across your selected apps while hey is watching. The interval is 5, 10 or 20 minutes of use, not simply time since opening hey. Apple's signal can arrive a little late.
Keep hey in the background after setup. You do not need to keep it on screen. If settings or permission changed, reopen hey once and check the home screen.
I wanted to keep watching a video
Keep using asks you to confirm, then starts a fresh check-in interval. You can also leave video apps out of your selected apps or end the session. hey cannot tell the difference between purposeful watching and accidental scrolling.
Does Take a break lock the app?
No. It clears hey's check-in and returns you to Home. You can reopen the app immediately. There is no punishment or cooldown.
Stop the check-ins
Turn off the connected Focus, tap Pause for this Focus in hey, or end your manual session. To disconnect it completely, remove the hey filter from that Focus in Settings.
Restore a purchase
Use the Apple Account you originally purchased with. In hey, open Settings > Your plan > Restore purchases. The welcome and plan screens also offer restore. If Apple reports a pending purchase, wait for its approval; do not keep buying again.
Change or cancel a plan
In hey, open Settings > Your plan > Manage subscription. Or open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Apple handles changes and refunds. Lifetime access has no renewal. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Free trials and renewals
Choose a subscription in hey and confirm with Apple to start an eligible free trial. The trial length, renewal price and billing period appear before you confirm. After the trial, Apple charges the selected subscription automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Cancel through iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Lifetime is a separate one-time purchase with no subscription trial.
Forgot to cancel?
Email hello@tryhey.app and we’ll help you request a refund. You can also request a refund directly from Apple. Apple reviews requests and decides eligibility; we can’t guarantee approval. Cancel the subscription as well if you don’t want future renewals. Deleting hey does not cancel a subscription.
Testing with TestFlight
TestFlight purchases are simulated and do not charge you. They do not transfer to the App Store version. If you install hey from the App Store after the beta, review and choose your plan there.
