The app

hey helps you notice time spent in apps you choose. You do not need a hey account.

Apple's Screen Time tools count use in the applications, categories and websites you select. Apple gives hey protected selections and signals when your chosen amount of use is reached. hey does not read your messages, photos, passwords, browsing content or the videos you watch.

If you add hey to an Apple Focus, its Focus Filter sends on/off signals. hey does not receive the name of your Focus or its schedule.

Your selections, settings, Focus signals, session times, recent check-in times and access status are stored on your iPhone in storage shared by hey and its extensions. These records let the check-in work while the main app is in the background. Your selected app tokens and names are not sent to our server. If you choose optional analytics, the limited events below are shared. iOS may include app data in device backups according to your Apple settings.

The app includes no advertising, tracking or third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell your personal data or use your app activity for advertising.

Purchases

Apple handles payments and purchase history. hey uses StoreKit to verify access on your device and to restore purchases. It stores a local access status. Eligible subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial approved through Apple, then renew automatically at the price shown before purchase unless cancelled. Lifetime is a separate one-time purchase. We do not receive your payment-card information or run a purchase-account database. Apple's privacy policy governs data Apple processes: https://www.apple.com/privacy/.

Optional usage analytics

Sharing is off by default. If you turn on “Help improve hey” during setup or “Share usage to improve hey” in Privacy & how it works, we collect setup steps, permission success or failure, paywall views, plan selection and purchase outcomes, Focus on/off signals, monitoring starts and failures, check-in requests, break/continue choices, and whether Apple reports automatic renewal on or off when hey is opened. We also receive event times, app version/build and whether the build is for testing. This helps us find broken setup steps and improve the app.

Events use a random installation identifier. This is pseudonymous data, not anonymous data: events from the same installation can be grouped together. We do not collect your Apple Account, advertising identifier, selected app names, messages, photos, browsing content, payment details or session recordings. We do not link analytics to waitlist emails or feedback-board visitors. Cloudflare hosts this first-party service and processes network information to deliver and protect it; we do not store IP addresses in the analytics database.

Events may be queued on your device for up to seven days and uploaded when hey is open. Raw analytics are deleted from our database after 90 days. You can stop sharing in Privacy & how it works. Turning sharing off clears unsent events. “Delete shared usage data” also removes previously uploaded events for this installation and turns sharing off. An internet connection is needed; the app retries pending deletion when reopened. We retain a deletion marker for up to 90 days to prevent an in-flight upload from restoring deleted events. Deleting the app before requesting deletion removes the identifier needed to find those records; they still expire under our retention period.

Feedback board

At tryhey.app/feedback you can suggest features and vote without an account. Requests appear publicly after review. We store the title, description, date and status; do not include private information. Votes use a random browser identifier stored in your browser and our database to prevent duplicate votes from that browser. This identifier is separate from app analytics. Clearing browser storage or changing browsers can reset it. We keep requests and votes while the board operates or until removed. To request removal of a post, contact hello@tryhey.app with its title and details. You can remove your vote by tapping it again.

The waitlist website

If you join at tryhey.app, we store your email address, signup time, a share token and, if you followed someone's invite link, the referrer associated with that link. We use this information to manage the waitlist and tell you when hey is available. Joining is optional and separate from using the app.

The website and waitlist database use Cloudflare. The hosting provider processes network information needed to deliver and protect the site. We do not add advertising trackers to the page. We keep waitlist records until the launch mailing is finished or you ask us to remove them, unless we need to retain a record to meet a legal obligation.

If you contact support

We receive the information you choose to send, such as your email and description of a problem. Include only what is needed; do not send passwords, payment details or private screen content. We use the message to respond and troubleshoot, and keep it only as long as needed for that purpose or a legal obligation.

Your choices

You can change selected apps, pause a Focus watch or end a session inside hey. You can remove the hey Focus Filter in Settings > Focus, and remove Screen Time permission in iPhone Settings. Deleting the app removes its local app data according to iOS storage and backup behavior. Deleting hey does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage that separately in App Store settings.

For waitlist removal or questions about information you sent us, email hello@tryhey.app. For optional app analytics, use the in-app deletion control described above; we do not know your identity from your random installation identifier.
